This is your typical kerosene lamp lantern. It gives off the light of the flame and you can ajust the wick to how large you want the flame. If you're looking for a lot of light you want to stick to the expensive Coleman lanterns with mantles. I camp a lot and i use these lanterns the majority of the time for my light they do exactly what they're supposed to! Tip: if you want to use the lantern while walking or just to direct light in one direction wrap tin foil, reflexive side in, on one half of the lantern. This will reflex the light in one direction or out in front of you and not in your eyes while walking.
