Product Description I bought this off Cabelas site (for more $) so I may get another one here.
It has tons of positive reviews there....seems many RV-ers swear by this blanket to reflect summer heat off the roofs of their campers or the giant windows of the motor homes. The durability, the many positive reviews made me want to try it - figured if nothing else, I would use it as a car blanket, etc...
I have a "one bag" philosophy except for canoe trips where I absolutely know I won't have any portages. That being so, what I take has to do what I expect, hold up, and preferably be multi-use.
*I've used this on 8-9 trips so far. It's exceeded what I wanted it to do. I really wanted the green, but I got the red for my one piece of gear that could be a signal flag if needed. (Still not warmed up to something so bright in my camp!)
*I have used this for a pack wrap up under my hammock and rain fly every night out. It keeps everything dry for surprise rain storms, but also keeps a lot of creepy crawlies out of my stuff.
*Used it for a shelter half on a quick lunch stop to block the days strong wind and build a nice fire for coffee and lunch.
*The above use almost burned me out of my lean-to shelter with the fire-reflecting heat (it was summer)...so I remembered that and used it like that on purpose in a fall camp - temps in the 30's and 40's and I was TOASTY by the campfire.
*Used it for a rain tarp - quick and easy to set up with the grommets
*Used it to reflect my body heat at night in a winter camp just last weekend - my hammock has a bottom pocket to slide a theromrest or something in - my hammock is so comfy I don't need the padding, but in the winter this I found is perfect to stay warm. It was 23 degrees one night on my turkey day outing up in the BWCA.
*I suppose it could be great emergency blanket too, but haven't used it as such.
I still wish I'd bought the green just becuase I feel so "gaudy" with this fire-red color in the woods, so I may still buy another one in green, donate this to my wife's jeep as a car blanket and carry a red bandana or something for a flag~! lol! but other than that - this blanket is a keeper for me.
by the way, I've not gotten any holes, tears, or punctures in mine. -
