Is it Really an Ice Cream Sandwich?:
Yes, We use only premium Grade 'A' ice cream, the REAL stuff.
How Does Freeze Dried Ice Cream Taste?:
Crunchy with a texture like a Whopper malted milk ball however, once you place it in your mouth, it quickly dissolves, "melts", in your mouth. It really tastes like a normal ice cream sandwich, just dry, not frozen. Ready to eat directly from the pouch anytime, anywhere!
Trivia - How Do They Freeze Dry Ice Cream?:
The process is quite amazing how they actually go about turning a regular ice cream sandwich into freeze dried. It goes through a journey much like outer space. Our freeze dried ice cream begins with delicious premium Grade 'A' frozen ice cream which is frozen solid to 40 degrees F below zero. It is then placed in a large 'space' vacuum chamber. An vacuum is drawn from the chamber (just like in outer space) and a small amount of heat is applied (between 100 degrees -130 degrees ). As this is done the frozen moisture from the ice cream is magically vaporized and goes from the frozen state to the dry state without going through the melted liquid state. Thus, freeze - dried. This process in physics is call "sublimation".
The result is an ice cream bar that is the same size as the original but only the water crystals have been removed. The natural taste, flavor and nutrients are all preserved. With the moisture removed, it weighs almost nothing! It's then packaged in a special moisture/oxygen barrier foil bag which can be stored for up to 5 years (great for emergency preparedness snacks). Weighs 1.13 ounces. 170 calories per bar and contains 7 grams of fat.
Be a kid again, be sure to bring some along on your next outdoor or space adventure. They're sure to put a smile on any junior astronaut. Sold at other stores up to $5.99 each.
